FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the bot need to be in my server?

No. PersonalTranslator is a user-installed app — you install it to your own Discord account, not to a server. It works in every server you're in, in DMs, and in group chats, without any server admin needing to add it.

Can other people see my translations?

By default, no — translations are private and only visible to you. You can make a translation public by adding visible:True to /translate, or change your default with /set-visibility.

What's the difference between /set-language and /my-language?

  • /set-language sets the language for the /translate command — when you type text to translate yourself.
  • /my-language sets the language for the right-click context menu — when you translate someone else's message.

You can set them to the same language, or use different ones for each.

The translation looks wrong — what should I do?

Translation quality depends on the language pair and the complexity of the text. Paid users are automatically upgraded to a higher-quality translation engine. If you're seeing consistently poor results, try rephrasing the original text or contact support.

Do tokens expire?

No. Token packs never expire. Your balance stays until you use it, regardless of how long that takes.

What happens when I run out of tokens?

The bot will show an out-of-tokens message with a button to purchase a pack directly inside Discord. You won't be able to translate until you top up.

Is my message content stored?

No. The content of messages you translate is not stored. It is sent to a translation API and the result is returned to you in real time. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
