Tokens
Tokens
Tokens are the currency used by PersonalTranslator to pay for translations.
How tokens work
- 1 token = 1 character in the message being translated.
- A 150-character message costs 150 tokens.
- Tokens are deducted each time a translation API call is made.
- Tokens are consumed even if the message turns out to be already in your target language — the API call is made first regardless.
Your starting balance
When you first use PersonalTranslator, you receive a one-time free allocation of tokens. This is enough to try the bot and translate a good number of messages before needing to top up.
There are no monthly free tokens — the initial allocation is a one-time gift.
Checking your balance
Use /status at any time to see:
- Your current token balance with a visual bar
- How many characters you have translated in total
- When you last made a purchase
Running out of tokens
When your balance reaches zero, translations will be paused until you purchase a token pack. You can do this directly inside Discord — see the Purchasing page for details.
Token tips
- Longer messages cost more. If you only need to understand part of a message, you can use
/translateand type just that portion. - Tokens never expire — purchased packs remain valid indefinitely.
- You can check your balance any time with
/statuswithout spending any tokens.
